Broadway veteran Kevin Gray dies at 55

Broadway veteran Kevin Gray passed away yesterday, Feb. 12. Gray was 55 and suffered a heart attack.

Gray is best remembered for his roles in “Miss Saigon”, “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Phantom of the Opera.”

Gray was a champion of getting roles that were considered “off the grid” for a person with a Non-Caucasian background.

Max von Essen, who made his Broadway debut working with Gray in the 2000 revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, took to Twitter to express his condolences for Gray’s family.

“Sensational talent, wonderful man,” von Essen wrote. “Such a loss. My heart is with his family.”

Gray will be remembered for his passion and as someone who cared deeply about the past, present and future of Broadway.
