What’s better than seeing Christian Borle taking on Hollywood? The answer: Nothing. And lucky for us, we’ll soon see him on the big screen!
Borle, who was last seen in NBC’s musical drama Smash, and whose theatre credits include Spamalot, Legally Blonde and Peter and the Starcatcher, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play in 2012, has landed a substantial role in an upcoming film written and directed by Michael Mann.
The working title of the film is Cyber, and details about the plot are scarce so far. However, the movie’s IMDB page categorizes Cyber as an “action thriller,” and implies that the film will involve international forces combining on a computer-hacking case.
Borle will be joining a star-studded cast, which includes Hollywood stars Chris Hemsworth, Viola Davis, and Holt McCallany. The release date will be sometime in 2014, and the cast will be filming on location in China.
It’s thrilling to see Borle moving onwards to bigger projects after the cancellation of Smash. He has a broad range of acting experience, which goes from a villainous mustache-sporting pirate, to a geeky Harvard Law teaching assistant to, more recently, an openly gay Broadway songwriter. His amazingly versatile acting skills should be seen by millions, and with this movie, they surely will get the exposure they deserve.
I’m personally interested in seeing what type of character Borle has been chosen to play. Will he be a hacker? Perhaps he will play one of the “good guys?” With his talent and range of experience, he could take on any number of different characters while still doing a bang-up job.
