The outrageously talented, beautiful, and sweet as can be actress Annaleigh Ashford has been nominated for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical at this year’s Tony Awards.

Ashford, a Denver native, began her career began when she was only nine and although she is currently known for her performance in Broadway’s Kinky Boots, Ashford has also been in many productions both on and Off-Broadway, including Hair, Rent, Wicked and Legally Blonde: The Musical

Ashford plays Lauren, an independent, working-class girl in a shoe factory run by Charlie, played by Stark Sands. Ashford’s big musical number “The History of Wrong Guys” blends humor and the relatable and awkward feelings associated with falling in love. Ashford makes Lauren such a strong character and brings both comedy and seriousness to the glitzy musical.

Not just limited to the stage, Ashford has taken her talents to both the small screen and to movie theaters. In 2008 she had small roles in the first Sex and the City movie as well as Rachel Getting Married and has appeared in two episodes of the NBC musical series Smash.

Though she is up against similarly talented actresses, by the end of the night, she might be able to say that she has won a Tony.
