Graceland: Cheers to the White Russians and Zombie Virus

Episode 3 of Graceland picks up right where last week’s episode left off.  We see Briggs with his gun to Mike’s head, but we still don’t know why.  Come to find out, my prediction from last week was right!  This was part of Briggs’ plan!  That may be one of the only situations that I will be able to predict this season.  This show really keeps me on my toes.

Tonight we learn more about why Mike was sent to investigate Briggs.  Apparently the bureau thinks he may be stealing money.  Mike gets smart and bargains with his “shrink.”  They tell him why he’s investigating Briggs, he gives them more detailed reports.  We saw Mike bargain for information last week as well.  He’s getting good at this game.  I tend to think there’s more going on here than just money.

I’m also starting to think Lauren might actually be insane… or in love.  But, that’s kind of the same thing, right?  Donnie has been transferred to Miami and Lauren is fighting to get him back to Graceland by going after the one Russian who wants him dead.  Briggs seems to think it’s not a great idea, but they recruit Johnny and Mike to help them out.  Briggs makes the decision to abort the mission last minute and Lauren blows her cover by going through with the mission anyway.  With the Russians now onto Lauren, Paige and Briggs are now concerned that they’re going to track her straight to Graceland.

Speaking of Paige and Briggs, I still think there’s something going on between them.  I noticed again that she is the only person in the house who calls him by his first name.  I hope there’s a sub-plot here that gets hashed out sometime later in the season.  I’m dying to know what’s going on, and in true Graceland fashion, it’s probably not at all what it appears to be.

One of my favorite scenes in tonight’s episode is when the Graceland gang is out on the town and they teach newbie Mike the art of playing pretend.  Whether a pharmaceutical rep, a flight attendant, a photographer, an astronaut, a musician, or a young golfer trying to make it on the PGA tour, the lying game continues.  This is actually one part of the undercover job that the theatre nerd in me would really love… pretending to be someone else in public just to see if people believe me.  I don’t think I’d be able to come up with a story quick enough, and I certainly don’t think I could keep going with a straight face.

I have a feeling that this girl in the bar that Paige introduces to Mike is going to wind up being a serious love interest for him.  I think eventually he’s going to have a hard time lying to her.  She’s an East Coast girl.  He’s an East Coast guy.  It’s really quite adorable.  But how long could it possibly last?

Episode 3 ends with yet another cliffhanger.  Paige and Mike find a GPS underneath Lauren’s car, which gets her transferred out of Graceland.  Here’s where the plot twist comes in.  Mike is investigating Briggs’ money, right?  Well, he sees that Briggs spent over $500 at an auto shop where he bought… wait for it… the very same GPS found underneath Lauren’s car!  Obviously it’s a danger for Lauren to continue living at Graceland with the Russians after her, but they weren’t the ones tracking her.

I still don’t understand why Briggs feels the need to do things the sneaky way.  Lauren’s presence is a real threat to the rest of the household, so why did he go behind the bureau’s back to get her transferred?  Honesty seems like it may have been the best idea in this case.

Man, after all the events of this week’s episode I may need a shot of “Zombie Virus” or a White Russian too!  I can’t wait to see what Episode 4 brings!

What did you think of tonight’s episode?  Are you loving the cliffhanger endings as much as me?  Leave a comment and let me know!
