Stylish leather boots. A bass guitar case. And, of course, the iconic yellow umbrella.

All of these were seen by last night’s viewers of the How I Met Your Mother season finale before the camera panned up to reveal the face of the woman everyone has been waiting for meet for eight years.

Guess what, theatre fans? The long awaited role of “The Mother” will be played none other than Cristin Milioti!

The Broadway community rejoiced upon seeing Milioti light up the screen as she articulated the line, “Hi, one ticket to Farhampton please.” Of course, in typical HIMYM fashion, this was followed by a blackout, so now we must wait until next season to learn more about the woman Ted Mosby is going to marry. But for now, we know plenty about the lovely actress playing her!

Milioti is most noted for her captivating performance in the Tony Award winning musical Onceas Girl, who is also a mother. As someone who was able to see her and Steve Kazee in this show, I can say with complete sincerity that she is one of the most talented women around. Milioti excels in singing, dancing, acting, piano-playing and now in How I Met Your Mother we can expect to see her play a different instrument: the bass guitar! There is nothing she can’t do, if you ask me.

In addition, Milioti has also appeared in various works of television and film, most notably 30 Rock, Sleepwalk with Me, and Nurse Jackie.

Her musical talent is actually part of the reason Milioti landed this role, as the show’s creators revealed to InsideTV.  Carter Bays, one of the show’s creators, even called her “an amazing musician” in this interview.

Some important facts to know about “The Mother” is that on the day Mosby taught the wrong class when he first became a professor at Columbia University, Milioti’s character was supposedly in the room. She was also roommates with his ex-girlfriend Cindy (played by Rachel Bilson). “The Mother” and Mosby even attended the same St. Patrick’s Day party a few seasons back, and their star-crossed paths will finally meet at the Farhampton train station during Barney and Robin’s wedding. Mosby is there because he is planning to move to Chicago in search of a new beginning. Clearly, he is going to find it.

In light of many Broadway actors losing their jobs as NBC canceled 1600 Penn, The New Normal, Go On and Smash, maybe we can now restore our hope in theatre actors finding time on the small screen. For Milioti, this is the role of a lifetime, and diehard How I Met Your Mother fans can rest assured that she will be worth the wait.
