Fans will be excited to hear that Tony nominee Josh Young is both set to return to Broadway next year, and will soon be announcing an exciting but mysterious new project.

Young’s Twitter account has been plastered with images teasing “exciting news coming soon” for the past few weeks; however, he has not confirmed what this news is.

Continuing to be ambiguous, Young would only say in his tweet that he was to be involved in a “very exciting opportunity.” It has now become apparent that after this project Young will also be returning to Broadway in what seems to be a new production, though this has not been confirmed. Young told The Star “I’m supposed to be doing a new Broadway show in the next 12 months, but that is not my immediate gig.”

Many have speculated that he will be returning to the Broadway stage, where last year he played the role of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar. As if to heighten curiosity, Young tweeted on Monday that he would no longer be playing the role of Fabrizio in The Shaw Festival’s production of The Light in the Piazza, much to the dismay of fans (including myself) who were excited to see him as the sweet-talking Italian romantic lead. But Young encouraged fans to continue to experience The Shaw Festival as one of the “most unique institutions in the world.”

Jesus Christ Superstar was Young’s Broadway debut and earned him a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He also won the Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway debut. Young has performed at the Stratford Festival in Evita as Che, and also toured the US as Marius in Les Misérables.

Young is one of the industry’s most versatile actors and his performance as Judas was very different from many others I have seen in the role. There is a clear distinction between his angry and politically driven Judas and his dorky Marius (this portrayal quickly became one of my favourites). However, my favourite performance of his was Che Guevara, and it would be wonderful to see another Evita revival with him in the role.

What do you think Young’s next project or Broadway show could be? Let me know in the comments!
