Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez are taking Broadway on a Date!

The two seasoned actors will be making their way to Broadway in the brand new musical comedy First Date. It will be starting out at the Longacre Theatre on July 9, with opening night on August 8.

Rodriguez, whose theatre credits include In the HeightsA Chorus Line and Spring Awakening, was last seen on stage in the original Broadway cast of The Addams Family as Wednesday Addams.  Her newest fans will know her as Ana Vargas, “The Diva” in NBC’s recently departed drama Smash. Upon its cancellation, I had been hoping that all of these talented actors would make their ways back to Broadway, and it looks like my wish is beginning to come true!

For Levi, who is best known for his role on the popular television series, ChuckFirst Date marks his Broadway debut. We know for a fact that this gentleman has a lovely set of pipes, as audiences saw in the Disney flick Tangled, where he could be found singing as the dashing, but always on the wrong side of the law hero, Flynn Rider.  If Tangled wasn’t enough, Levi can also be heard singing with Katharine McPhee in her song “Terrified,” which was released in 2010. He is seen alongside her in the music video for the single as well.

In First Date, Levi and Rodriguez will be taking on the parts of jittery, good boy, Aaron, and intelligent, cool girl, Casey respectively. The musical navigates through their first night out together, which is filled with the stereotypical fake emergency phone calls, social media background checks and awkward silences.

Personally, I’ve loved Rodriguez in everything she’s ever been in, and she is by far one of my favorite theatre actresses. Her beaming stage presence never fails to captivate an audience, and she has an exceptionally distinct and remarkable voice. I have absolutely no doubt that this Broadway veteran is going to woo theatregoers everywhere all over again.

For Levi’s big debut, it’s simply perfect that he will be playing opposite Rodriguez, whose experience can only be of help to him, and Levi is sure to thrive in his role as well.  He has a natural charm that made television audiences adore him as Chuck, and a gorgeous voice that had a chance to shine in Tangled; Broadway was only a matter of time for Levi, and he couldn’t have picked a better time!

There is no question that these incredibly talented actors will be making everyone laugh and cry when this musical takes over Broadway at the Longacre Theatre this summer!
