When I started Stage Door Dish last January I wrote an editorial about why Andrew and Celia Keenan-Bolger were the Broadway Stars of 2012. Now, as 2013 comes to an end and we all anxiously await all of the excitement coming to Broadway in 2014, I wanted to give our readers the opportunity to contribute to what I hope becomes a longstanding tradition at Stage Door Dish.
I will still choose my own picks for Broadway Star of 2013 (a task that already plagues me – how can I choose just one leading man and lady?) but I wanted to open up the discussion to include a reader’s choice this year. The only requirement is that you nominate one person or persons (you may vote up to 5 times in the preliminary round) of both genders instead of an entire cast or company and that person must have performed on Broadway in the last calendar year.
Andrew and Celia were chosen last year for their philanthropic projects, rallying of the Broadway community during the election, and their exciting stage roles. But the fun of opening this to anyone’s vote is your nominees can be chosen for your vote for any reason.
Whichever lucky leading man and leading lady receive the title of Broadway Performer of 2013 will receive an engraved crystal award as recognition and as a way for them to be reminded of their fan support.
How to vote in this round:
Please comment here with at least one male and one female nominee. You may vote up to five times and all five times can be for the same person. Start campaigning for your favorite, this is a vote by the people so rally support for your favorite star!
Nominations will close on Monday, December 16, with the next round of voting starting on Tuesday, December 17.
