Miki’s Artwork: Showcasing Fiddler‘s new tradition

Melanie Moore, Alexandra Silber, and Samantha Massell recording the 2016 “Fiddler on the Roof” cast recording.

Fiddler on the Roof is starting a new tradition today. The beloved score, which includes “Matchmaker”, “Sunrise, Sunset,” and “If I Were A Rich Man”, has transcended generations and established itself as one of the most recognizable compositions in history. But longtime Fiddler fans and new audiences will experience the famous musical as never before with the cast recording performed by the current 50th Anniversary Broadway company.

The revival stars five-time Tony nominee Danny Burstein as Tevye and Jessica Hecht as Golde.

The new cast recording features “Dear Sweet Sewing Machine”, a bonus track that was never included in the production. The song is performed by Motel (Adam Kantor) and Tzeitel (Alexandra Silber) and is a sweet medley about the young couple’s hope for a happy, financially stable life.

One of the most remarkable performances on the recording is by Samantha Massell. As Hodel, Tevye’s second eldest daughter, Massell’s vocals soar in her solo “Far From The Home I Love.” Equal parts sweet and heartbreaking, Massell is a standout even in a cast of phenomenal talents.

In Miki’s latest art, she captures the playful dance between Perchik (Ben Rappaport) and Hodel as their romance begins to blossom. The onstage couple complement each other beautifully, Massell’s optimistic and kind Hodel is a brilliant contrast against Rappaport’s cynical and radical Perchik, and their duet “Now I Have Everything” is one of the most delightful tracks on the cast recording.
