Rory O’Malley, Leslie Kritzer and Lauren Molina give fans a lot to love in new Off-Broadway musical ‘Nobody Loves You’

Rory O’Malley, Leslie Kritzer and Lauren Molina are headlining a brand new musical at Second Stage Theatre this summer, and this exciting group of performers is bound to bring on loads of laughs and praise with this quirky new comedy. Preview performances of Nobody Loves You will begin June 20, with the official opening date set for July 18.

Nobody Loves You follows the story of a college grad student who auditions for a reality television dating show in hopes of winning back his former girlfriend. However, when he gets cast for the show, nothing goes quite as planned, with hilarity, conflict and even some new romance striking on set, and making for endlessly entertaining plot twists.

The musical will showcase a score written by Gaby Alter and a book by Itamar Moses, who worked together to pen the lyrics. The production is under the direction of Michelle Tattenbaum, and will also feature Heath Calvert, Bryan Fenkart, Roe Hartrampf, Autumn Hurlbert and Aleque Reid.

So what’s going to make this production so special? There are lots of reasons why we should all keep our eyes on this show.

First of all, the cast is going to blow us away.

Rory O'Malley.

Rory O’Malley.

As we all know by now, O’Malley is a complete superstar. He played the rather confused Elder McKinley in The Book of Mormon with ease and charisma, earning him a Tony nod in 2011. Now with a big leading role that he can really sink his teeth into, we should be prepared to see him work wonders at Second Stage. Let’s face it: this is a man who went from not being able to tap dance at all to showing everyone how it’s done in the musical number “Turn It Off”.

Lauren Molina.

Lauren Molina.

Molina, who wowed us in Sweeney Todd, Rock of Ages and most recently, Marry Me a Little off-Broadway, has proved her versatile acting range and amazing voice over the span of her career. I mean, come on, Molina has taken on the scores of Sondheim and the tunes of Twisted Sister! There is no song she can’t sing!

Leslie Kritzer.

Leslie Kritzer.

Kritzer is going to be stunning in this musical as well. She’s appeared in Elf, Legally Blonde, Hairspray and Sondheim on Sondheim, not to mention her recent one-woman show Beautiful Disaster. She’s proven time and time again that she is more than capable of carrying a show, even one in which she is the only performer, and like O’Malley, her chance in the spotlight is going to be wonderful to see as she is sure to excel in this production.

Even were it not for the cast this upcoming hit is worth keeping in our sights, simply by virtue of its premise. This is a musical about something that has become a huge craze in our modern culture: reality television. It’s going to be fascinating to see how exactly the dating show will be portrayed, and I’m sure we are in for a treat in terms of how everything will be pulled off on June 20.
