Scarlett Johansson is starting an all-girl band.

Okay, let’s not kid ourselves—her Oscar performance of “Before My Time” from Chasing Ice was pretty impressive, right? But the excitement at hearing Scarlett’s singing voice didn’t end there. Fans everywhere were ecstatic to hear Scarlett’s recent announcement about forming an all-girls band called The One And Only Singles. Comparing them to the Go-Go’s, Scarlett says she is as impressed with her female ensemble as she is excited to work with them.

Scarlett’s rendition of “Before My Time,” an original song written by J. Ralph for the documentary Chasing Ice, was nominated against Adele’s “Skyfall” for Best Original Song, which was  an immense honor for Scarlett. Of course, this is not Scarlett’s first time at the microphone; her debut solo album Anywhere I Lay My Head was released in 2008 and received mixed reviews from critics and fans. Some are predicting that Scarlett’s girl band has no chance at success in today’s music industry; however, others are confident that she is starting the band at just the right time.

It is common knowledge that women are dominating the music industry; just look at Beyoncé, T-Swift, Adele and Katie Perry. So why shouldn’t ScarJo start her own all-girl group? There has already been quite a bit of online chatter since her announcement about the group on Live with Kelly and Michael and her movie star status will undoubtedly draw even more interest when the band’s first single is released.

Scarlett has recently been seen fighting alongside her fellow Avengers as well as on the Broadway stage playing Maggie the Cat in Tennessee Williams’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. And here’s a bit of trivia for you: Scarlett auditioned for the role of Fantine in Les Miserables with laryngitis. After losing the part to Anne Hathaway, she admitted that she would never have been able to top Anne’s performance. Regardless, it will be very interesting to see what Scarlett’s creativity and perseverance, as well as the efforts of her female ensemble, produce when The One And Only Singles reveal their music to the masses.

What do you think of Scarlett’s new venture? Will she have a long career or will it fizzle and fade as quickly as it starts? Tell us below in comments!
