‘The Glass Menagerie’ scheduled to open on Broadway this fall

Cherry Jones and Celia Keenan-Bolger in the ART production of “The Glass Menagerie.”

The haunting revival of The Glass Menagerie, which played at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Mass., earlier this year, is scheduled to make its Broadway debut on September 5 and open on Sept. 26 for a 17-week limited run.

The production will star Cherry Jones as matriarch Amanda Wingfield, Zachary Quinto as her son Tom, Celia Keenan-Bolger as her daughter Laura, and Brian J. Smith as Jim, the gentleman caller.

The revival of the Tennessee Williams memory play received critical acclaim during its limited pre-Broadway run, opposed to the 2005 Broadway revival starring Jessica Lange and Christian Slater which received mixed to negative reviews, and is directed by Tony Award winner John Tiffany best known for his work with Once.

After having the opportunity to see the play three times, it was evident that it would end up making its move to Broadway if solely based on the strong performances by all four actors. Most memorable is Keenan-Bolger’s beautiful and haunting performance as the emotionally and physically crippled Laura.

The Glass Menagerie will be housed at a Shubert theatre to be announced at a later date.
