The fashions showcased on television shows can help (in the case of a show like Downton Abbey, with beautiful period pieces) or harm (as with the fashions in Smash). Viewers become more involved in watching the show because of the costume choices made. Costumes add to the overall feeling of the show; clothes mean more than just something to wear. Clothes can show how a person feels–about life and about themselves. However, sometimes they are just about looking good. And how perfect are the clothes on The New Normal? So perfect.

In The New Normal episode, “Dog Children,” Goldie shows her fashion sense, knowing how to rock her dress with her socks, which is not an easy feat. Yet, she managed to look absolutely perfect, even with the added obstacle of being pregnant. By reading on, you can learn how to rock the socks like Goldie.

Goldie’s dress is off-white, with multicolored flowers. There’s a dress quite similar on ModCloth. The dress is entitled “Get What You Dessert” which is exactly what Goldie does in the episode. Well…not everything, but at least she gets Clay.

She wears either a jacket or a sweater over the dress throughout the episode. Goldie’s jacket is denim with some different fabrics sewn on throughout the jacket. Since a jacket like this is hard to find, there’s a few options. AE Outfitters offers a plain denim jacket that would work just fine. If that’s not right, changing the jacket on your own might be something better. Adding a personal twist ensures the individuality of the look.

Now onto the most difficult part–the socks. Goldie’s socks are a little bit higher than knee length and maroon in color. However, this is where you can personalize the outfit. Find a pair of socks that work with the pieces already in place. They might be shorter in length or lighter in color but it doesn’t matter! By changing the socks, the whole look can change as well. If the socks are really a foreign concept, just ditch them all together. The ensemble created is strong enough to stand alone without some socks (they really are cute though)!
