In the aftermath of the internet sensation that was Billy Green, Wesley Taylor (Smash, The Addams Family) and Mitchell Jarvis (Rock of Ages) have teamed up to create a new web series spoofing the Broadway industry.
It Could Be Worse follows the story of The Ice Queen, a new musical opening on Broadway, and the ridiculous relationships between Jacob Gordon (Wes Taylor) and his friends. Not much is known about “The Ice Queen,” as of the first four episodes. We know that it is a musical featuring Veronica Bailey, an actress who is very famous.
Already, the series has ridiculed the audition process and proper behavior as well as the life of the Broadway actor outside the stage door.
It Could Be Worse is incredibly funny. The relationships work and the storyline is already creating fully developed characters that audiences are going to love over the course of the season. Jacob Gordon is incredibly relatable and real, especially to those who are trying to make it in the biz.
The primary cast features Wesley Taylor as Jacob Gordon and co-creator Mitchell Jarvis as Sam Atkinson as well as Gideon Glick (Spring Awakening) as Gordon’s co-dependent boyfriend Phillip Klein and Adam Chanler-Berat (Peter and the Starcatcher) as Ben Farrell, a successful actor friend.
Nancy Opel (Memphis) and Richard Poe (Present Laughter) play Jacob Gordon’s parents in the series. Yet to be featured on the series is Alison Fraser (Gypsy) who will be playing the highly anticipated role of Veronica Bailey.
Like other Broadway themed web shows, this series will and already has featured a plethora of Broadway beauties including:
- Jennifer Damiano (Spider-Man, Next to Normal)
- Blake Daniel (Spring Awakening)
- Andrew Durand (Spring Awakening)
- Kyle Dean Massey (Wicked, Next to Normal)
- Audra McDonald (Porgy and Bess)
- Laura Benanti (NBC’s Go On, Into the Woods)
- Ann Harada (Avenue Q, Cinderella)
