Will Chase will be returning to NBC’s musical drama Smash at the end of season two.
Chase recently returned to the set to film the season (and possible series) finale, titled “The Tonys.”
The episode will take place during a staged Tonys ceremony, where the shows within Smash, Bombshell and Hit List, will compete head-to-head for several Tony Awards. The information about the episode and its guest stars was posted on IMDb earlier today.
Chase plays Michael Swift, the former lover of librettist/lyricist Julia, played by Chase’s girlfriend Debra Messing. Swift played Joe DiMaggio in Bombshell during most of the first season before being written off by new showrunner Josh Safran in the season two premiere, “On Broadway.”
Currently, it is unclear what Swift’s role in the episode will be. No further episodes in which Chase will guest star have been announced at this time.
Fans have speculated about Chase’s possible guest starring after he posted a photo of himself on set on Instagram. This wasn’t the first picture Chase posted from set, as he would often visit with Messing on set while he was starring in The Mystery of Edwin Drood on Broadway. The picture from the set, featuring Chase in Tom’s apartment, bore the caption, “Swifty? On Tom’s couch?”
Broadway veteran Cheyenne Jackson will also make an appearance in the finale episode though his role has not been announced.
No further information has been released. The episode featuring Chase and Jackson’s appearances will air on Saturday, May 25.
